Career & Experience
SunThru LLC
Mechanical Engineer
July 2024 - Present
At SunThru LLC, an aerogel manufacturing startup, I act as the resident manufacturing and machine design expert for our seven-member team. I am the “jack of all trades” capable of doing engineering design, machining / prototyping, electrical work, programming and more. Working at SunThru is fast-paced, where rapid innovation and problem solving is crucial to success. In this role I have not only learned a wide range of new skills, but I have strengthened my ability to learn new skills on the fly in order to solve new problems beyond my expertise.
Union College Machine Lab
Machinist Work-Study
September 2021 - June 2024
At Union College’s engineering and machine lab, an in-house prototyping shop, I worked under the two full-time machinists to create prototypes for students, lab equipment for professors, and hardware for campus facilities. I grew my skills in manual machining, CNC waterjet operation, fabrication and welding, sheet metal work, and more. The projects brought through the machine lab required high precision and attention to detail. The lessons I learned from my work manufacturing parts for others have proven to be a positive influence on my own designs as an engineer.
Builtright Industries
Mechanical engineering intern
June 2023 - December 2023
At Builtright Industries, a small aftermarket truck parts business, I assisted the engineering team in designing truck bed storage equipment. I designed and fabricated sheet metal components, assisted in injection molded hardware design, and tested new products. Due to the small size of the team and the volume of customer demand, I strengthened my multitasking skills greatly. I became capable of quickly moving between a wide variety of tasks between helping the warehouse crew, designing components, fabricating prototypes and more while staying organized and meeting deadlines.
East Branch Engineering
Mechanical engineering intern
June 2021 - December 2022
At East Branch Engineering, a machine shop specializing in medical and defense industry components, I worked with machinists to program, set up, and operate a variety of Okuma, Brother, ProtoTRAK, and other CNC machines. I assisted the company’s engineering team in redesigning their tooling organization system; updating and implementing SOPs, creating formats for new documentation, and training the machinists on using the new system. I grew my skills in documentation, organization, and improved my communication skills between the engineering team and machinists on the manufacturing floor.
Robotics & Beyond
Lead Instructor
June 2015 - August 2021
At Robotics and Beyond, a non-profit STEM focused educational organization, I led the development and instruction of the company’s CAD and 3D printing courses. I began as a student in 2015, but after my first week I became an assistant instructor, learning how to communicate with students, help solve problems, and teach. After my first two years, I became the lead instructor for the introductory CAD course. The next year, I was responsible for the whole CAD and 3D printing program, where I learned to develop curriculum, train new instructors, and manage groups of students in a classroom setting.
